Throughout this course there were both challenging and fun assignments that we had to complete. I feel like I defiantly learnt from these assignments both about myself as well as new things that I might have not considered before.
One of the most challenging assignment for me was when I had to do my credo presentation. This was challenging as I was not known as a good public speaker, and I would always have this monotone when I do present. When I got the assignment I did not know what to do, or how to present my credo as I do not really have one. And last of all I feel like compiling something that is presentable to the class with my own photos was hard. All these challenges combined made the assignments extra hard as I did not know where to start and how to start. Throughout the classes we were give to work on the presentation, there would be times where I am struggling to find what to work on as I was so lost. For me, I feel like going through every phase of this project – script, presentation, and practice – was all a mountain to climb on itself; combined with everything, I was left with a challenge that was basically impossible. After doing the assignment, I learnt more about challenging myself as I did in this assignment, as well as knowing the limits I could reach when I really push myself hard.
Though all the assignments had tough situations that I had to go through, there were also some fun ones. Personally, I feel like the assignment that was most fun was definitely watching the play. A lot of the times I would just go back home and not participate in any events that the school hosts. I feel like going to the play allowed me to connect with others much more as I did build the set and it created a sense of connection for me. Spending time with my friends in this new way was not common, and I feel like after watching the play, the writing is really easy. I hope to do more after school activities myself and bond with others more. All in all, the assignment was fun and interactive at the same time allowed me to connect with others more, therefore making it the best assignment I have done.
English is definitely not my strong suit, and when it comes to writing, I really hated it. Through this class, it is more interesting than some of the other English classes I have took. This class not only introduced you to the way of writing in college, as well as having a variety of assignments. Personally, I feel like this allowed me to develop more as a writer, as I learnt more about the different ways of writing, fiction, non-fiction, descriptive and more. After this semester, evaluating where I am currently at, I would believe that I would be worst at writing descriptive pieces as I lack in word choice as well as finding ways to show instead of telling. Comparing my weakness, I would think my strengths would be doing the more informative writing, as I see myself as a person that would love logos everywhere in my essay. I hope that the next semester I could learn more ways of writing as well as improving my weaknesses.
As stated before, I really like writing informative essays, therefore I would find more time to plan for the descriptive essays that I do, whether this is at home or during class, I would give myself more time so that I could compose a better piece of writing. In order to display my strengths, I would often chose topics that were more of my type, this is shown in the college entrance essay, where I chose a prompt to describe an experiment which to me is more factual. Even though I have not seen any results yet, I feel like I am fairly successful at getting better at writing with descriptive essays as I would ask people to read it over and give suggestions, which helps to show that I am improving.
I have been thinking more about going into the financial field or the business as I feel like math is one of my strong suits. Even though there are not direct links, writing would still be very important as we would need to send reports to the client or the boss to display the different information. This would incorporate informational essays as well as descriptive writing to put facts in there and persuade the client to chose us over the others, or to show that we are in the green instead of the red, or to see what we could do to adjust to the market.
This school year was special as we lost a week during the protest, this caused the assignments to be rushed a lot of the times. I would suggest that the teachers could give us more time to work on the bigger assignments in class (such as this blog) and allow us to peer edit more as a lot of the times we would need to do it at home. However, every assignment that was graded I was given a lot of feedback and often find it helpful and allowed me to improve in the next assignment we did.
