Slide 1: There are many things in our lives where we do not want to do it because we do not like it. This could be HW or extra lessons, either way we do it because we are forced to.
Slide 2: But sometimes there are things that are more enjoyable that we might not want to do , whether it could be skydiving or others, we don’t want to do it because all we want to do is to stay home, chat with our friends or game, and do nothing else.
Slide 3 and 4: Well this happens to me a lot, and there was this instance during summer where I had to step out of my comfort zone. My brother and his friends decided to take up this new sport called wake surfing over the summer; now wake surfing in HK is usually on salt water where you would surf on the wake created by the boat. So being my mom, she came to me and asked me if I wanted to try this new sport out, and instantly I rejected. Personally I do not like salt water as it causes you to become sticky, it hard to wish off, and annoying to stay in.
Slide 5: But being my mom, she knows how to make me submit to her will, which in this case she threatened to not give me my allowance, and without a choice I was forced to go take a lesson.
Slide 6: On the road to the lesson, reality started to kick in, I am becoming more and more anxious about this. Personally I think I am quite a shy person where I do not like doing new things or meeting new people, so this is completely out of my comfort zone.
Slide 7: Arriving to the lesson, I met the coach. He was taller, stronger, and bigger than me, and when he looked down at asked if we could start, my heart rate surged. Stepping onto the boat I can feel that I regretted my decision already.
Slide 8: At the start of the lesson we went over some basic rules, like safety as well as learning how to stand up, the coach went on and on, however in my ears all I can hear was “blah blah blah blah blah” and instinctively I looked down at my watch, but it seems that God is against me as well, as I await for the end of the lesson.
Slide 9 and 10: After the instructions, it was my turn to try. Jumping into the water I can hear myself asking “why am I here?”, “Let’s just get this over with.” which displayed my bad attitude towards the lesson. So when I tried, I did what I heard and of course I failed. So I tried again, and of course I failed again. Now note, I always had a bad attitude during the class, however there was one thing that kept me going and it was that “if my brother could do it, I can too, because I am clearly better than him.”
Slide 11: With this in mind I kept on going, even with a bad attitude. Till the end of the lesson I could finally stand up on the board, this to me is a great achievements, while others were able to learn this within minutes; which reflects the bad attitude I had.
Slide 12 and 13: Going back home my lovely mom of course came up to me and told me that she already signed me up for another lesson. Even though I was mad about that, but I decided to make the best out of it, since I saw what my brother could do on the board. Learning and researching about the sports more, I go to the next lesson with a better attitude. Without being paranoid with my coach this time, I am able to learn more and more. And as you can see I am on the board for a much longer time and being better at it.
Slide 14 and 15: From then on wake surfing was a hobby where I am able to learn new tricks as well as just relax when I am doing it. Till this day I still do it for fun, but this also proves a point where mentality and attitude is everything. For the first lesson, I was not happy or trying at all, all I was thinking about was to go home and get it over with. I did not volunteer to come, therefore I do not like doing it, and from that I did not learn anything. However for the second lesson, I was being more competitive, and did not really complain rather listen to the coach more.
Slide 16 and 17: You see one of my take away from this is that everything starts with the mindset and mentality, there will be times where you are put into different places where you do not like, such as working in groups. And it is up to you to see whether or not you face it positively, if you do then you will be rewarded with unexpected results as there are always a positive side, but if you are always looking down and looking to go home you will accomplish nothing in life.
Slide 18 and 19: So here are my takeaway points, try new things as there are always room for it as long as you are willing to do so and you might find yourself with an unexpected new talent. You never know what might be your dream job, so it is vital that we work and find new talents. The second point is that mindset is the key to success, as there will be people that motivate themselves and be ready for the next day. They are the ones that will succeed in life, while there are ones that just slouch at home and do nothing but complain , and they are the ones that will struggle in life as they do not get anything accomplished.
Slide 20: These are my sources, and I hoped you enjoy my credo presentation.
Reflection: For this assignment, I was really nervous as I do not like speaking in front of the class. However, that was not the most annoying part, personally speaking was bad enough, but speaking for a long period of time without a script is really hard for me. Going into the assignment, I was frightened about the assignment, but as soon as I realised that my credo was going to be trying new things as well as facing it with a positive mindset, I was ready to take on the challenge. I feel like one of the best rewards for this assignment is the way I am able to grow confidence in talking in front of others, as well as having a smooth delivery.

I enjoyed reading about your experience wake surfing. It’s always nice to try something new and by the looks of your pictures, it looks like you had lots of fun. Your script is very well written and matches your presentation well. I like how you incorporated a video into your presentation to show your progress. From when you couldn’t even get on to the board, to surfing like a pro. This is a very important topic that you addressed perfectly. Good job!
